When you are traveling for thanksgiving this year, try and imagine leaving France in 1841, arriving in New York after an arduous ocean journey, then setting off to the wilderness of Northern Indiana. Then heading west via rivers, a dangerous trip across Lake Erie, and hundreds of miles of walking? Instead of planes, trains, and automobiles, it’s ships, canoes, and oxen! Father Sorin arrived at the small log Chapel Father Badin built with four brothers on a very cold November day in 1842. The men slept in the attic of this cabin! From this humble cabin Father Sorin began to build the University of Notre Dame.
